How Does the Mentor Program Work?
You’ll receive unlimited access to me by e-mail and phone for six months.
You set the way we work and the frequency of our conversations. Call me for quick help or set an appointment to discuss bigger issues. Email me a question or send letters, presentations, or proposal you’d like reviewed. We can discuss big issues or you can bounce simple ideas off me. It’s your choice.
My job is to goad, push, pull, and poke you. I provide objective, informed advice on the operations and growth of your career and business. It is up to you to initiate any work we do together. Our efforts are at your direction. You contact me with a question or problem, and I respond. We can work on “Macro” issues (marketing, sales strategies, business plans, etc.), or “Micro” matters (what to say at a meeting, critiquing proposals, reports, etc.).
I return all phone calls during business hours within 90 minutes, and all email within one business day. Your investment is $3,500 and is required to begin the work. The fee is not refundable for any reason. However, you may call for a pause in our work at any point. The clock starts again when you are ready.
Getting Started
Before you pay the fee, we reach a mutual decision on whether the program can meet your needs. If we agree to move forward, we’ll start with a review of your written answers to these questions:
- What’s your personal and work history?
- What skills do you have that will help you be successful?
- What is keeping you from being successful?
- What are your plans for the next 5, 10, 15, and 20 years?
- What are you looking to gain from our work together?
From there we move on to handling those issues that are most important to you – personalized, customized help to move you forward faster.

Scott: I mentioned earlier that I've been negotiating with (a municipality)to provide risk management consulting services in the absence of an in-house risk manager. I'm pleased to report the contract was approved this week. It's a 12-month contract for a considerable fee. I suspect it will require about 50% of my available time. I also released just today my first newsletter (finally!). I've already received a call from a 50-attorney law firm to review their own program. Their managing partner expressly referred to my newsletter. Admittedly, we had had earlier (very general) discussions about my consulting services but the newsletter seemed to be what prompted him to call today. Interesting.
